Smartwatches are a curious breed that have struggled with a bit of an identity crisis. To date, it hasn't been clear if they're for techies, fitness buffs or average folk. The numerous models on the market span across a growing number of categories, making it hard for smartwatches to distinguish themselves in the market. One area that's been tested, however, is that of luxury smartwatches. While this sector hasn't been quite as successful as hoped, companies are continuing to give it a go to see if there's untapped potential.

Michael Kors is the latest brand to get in on the action, utilizing Android Wear to create the Access smartwatch. This wearable is geared towards the fashion market and features two styles, a metallic gold option and a sportier metal option that comes in charcoal. Both watches have interchangeable leather and silicone bands, though metal and other materials should also work as long as they're of the right size.



The Access features built-in fitness tracking and magnetic charging, as well as the usual features of Android Wear, such as notifications and voice commands. Powering the smartwatch is a Snapdragon Wear 2100 processor, which should ensure better battery life and smooth performance.

Pricing starts at $350 and goes up to $395, depending on the finish. The watches are now available from Michael Kors, as well as select department and specialty stores.

The ZenWatch 3, which may be the only anticipated Android Wear smartwatch release for the end of 2016, launches next month in November. This watch was unveiled in late August, but at the time, ASUS stated it would launch in October. Apparently, that is no longer the case.

The ZenWatch 3 will cost only $229, which is quite the bargain when stacked against comparable smartwatches. 

ZenWatch 3 features a body of jewelry-grade 316L stainless steel, a thickness of 9.95mm, coupled with a 1.39-inch round AMOLED display (400×400 resolution). It runs the new Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100 chipset, has 512MB RAM, 4GB storage, Bluetooth 4.1, WiFi, 340mAh battery with quick-charge (0-60% in 15 minute), has a 45mm case diameter, and is rated IP67.

Other features include 50 pre-loaded watch faces, activity tracking, and will undoubtedly get updated to Android Wear 2.0 at some point in the future. You know, once Google decides to release it.

ASUS states that the ZenWatch 3 will be available for purchase directly from ASUS, as well as from many retail partners.

Back in July, a rumor surfaced that claimed Google was preparing to launch a couple of Android Wear smartwatches. The image and rumor came from Android Police, but they were unable to cite the source of the information. They said Google is working on launching two different smartwatches (as shown in the photo) with one being bigger than the other. The larger smartwatch is code named Angelfish while the smaller one carriers the code name Swordfish.

Angelfish is said to have LTE connectivity and GPS so it can be a standalone device and show off all the features that Android Wear has to offer. The rumor says Swordfish will not have either of those, and it might not even have a heart rate sensor. The missing features, along with its smaller size, suggest it might be sold as an affordable smartwatch while Angelfish will carry a premium price tag. With the death of the Nexus line now official, we're likely to see these branded as a Pixel device, but this is unknown at this time.

Last month we learned that the official release of Android Wear 2.0 would be delayed until "early 2017". We haven't been told exactly why this delay happened though. It could be due to new features being added, or it could be so their developers can iron out some bugs and polish the mobile operating system. Since the mock-up renders of Google's upcoming smartwatches depicted features Android Wear 2.0 features, many speculated they would be launched alongside of the new update.

A new rumor from Evan Blass now says Google's two unannounced smartwatches will be released right alongside Android Wear 2.0. This doesn't come as any surprise since we are used to seeing Google launch hardware with new versions of their software. Evan also believes they will be launched during the first quarter of 2017, which matches the expected Wear 2.0 release date. We'll likely see more leaks about these devices as we get closer to their launches.

About 5 weeks ago, Google created a new device tree in their AOSP repository for the Raspberry Pi 3. It's still empty after all this time, but it did suggest that the company was working on adding Android support for the tiny ARM computer. The official Raspberry Pi 3 Twitter page has now confirmed our suspicions, so we'll see that repo filled with code when Google is ready.
